by Daniel Reid
April 2024
May in Calgary is a time of rebirth and rejuvenation, offering endless opportunities to engage with the vibrant energy of spring. As the city awakens, there's a plethora of activities and adventures to dive into, perfect for both locals and visitors alike.
Here's a snapshot of things to do in Calgary this May:
Embrace the joy of movement at Flying Squirrel
Spring brings a renewal of energy, so it's important to have somewhere to channel it. Take the chance to jump, play and feel the joyful energy of spring at Flying Squirrel trampoline park in south Calgary where there are attractions to engage your whole family — like the airbag trampoline launch lanes — no matter their ages.
Breathe in the lush greenery at the Devonian Gardens
There’s no better celebration of spring than spending time among lush plants, trees and flowers. The Devonian Gardens are home to 500 trees, 50 varieties of plants, a 900 sq. ft. living wall, fountains, fish ponds and a playground. Breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the calming scenery and greet your May day feeling uplifted.
Take a train ride with Thomas the Tank Engine
The Heritage Park Historical Village is hosting Day Out With Thomas, a chance for your kids to experience the magic of taking a real train ride aboard everyone's favourite steam engine. The day also includes live entertainment, lawn games and bubble-themed activities.
Check out some spring-themed books at Central Library
Calgary’s Central Library is an architectural gem. Its stunning walkways and staircases are an experience in themselves, and that’s before you even check out the collections. Kids can choose from their favourite chapter books, picture books or graphic novels, and parents can choose the perfect spring-themed read-aloud to celebrate the season.
Cycle the Bow River Pathway
There’s no better time than spring to enjoy the approximately 48-kilometre long pathways that wind along Bow River. The pathway connects numerous parks and communities on either side of the Bow and Elbow Rivers along the way. Pop on your helmet, pack a water bottle and some snacks. Exercise, fresh air and stunning scenery await.
Go to the movies, but make it classy
Watching a movie alongside a live concert is a special experience—especially when that movie is a classic loved by many generations. The whole family will love Star Wars: A New Hope in concert with Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Watching a movie is always fun, but seeing professional musicians perform the film score is unforgettable.
