Adventure awaits: Exploring Whitby’s best indoor playground

November 2024
As a parent of three young kids, I often need a little help to get through winter. When the weather is dreary and the kids are dismantling the couch, I’m desperate for them to run off that energy (so they’ll actually chill later). Luckily, this Whitby indoor playground has me covered and has saved me more times than I care to admit.
All I have to do is utter the words, “maybe we should go to Flying Squirrel today?” and before I know it, the kids will happily do their chores, tidy up and pile into the car excitedly. This is a twofold strategy: One, we leave the house tidier. Two, we leave the house. It’s pure magic.
At Flying Squirrel indoor playground and trampoline park, my kids burn energy, play and have the most fun time, while I sit back and enjoy some chill time (or join in on the fun!)
Why Flying Squirrel is the best indoor play area in Whitby
Playgrounds are often a parents’ saving grace. Bad mood? Head to the playground. Restless energy? Playground. Sibling fights, boredom, you name it? Playground. But let’s be real: the same old swings and slides get old fast. Here’s what makes Flying Squirrel the best indoor play space:
- Way more comprehensive and varied than a standard playground
- There is something to entertain kids of all ages (including toddlers, tweens and teens)
- Climbing challenges, a battle beam, aerial silks and a rock-climbing wall are some extra perks
- The inflatable playgrounds alone could entertain your kids for hours
- Wall-to-wall trampolines keep a pep in everyone’s step
What’s inside the best indoor playground in Whitby?
At Flying Squirrel, fun comes with a twist—because ordinary playgrounds just won’t cut it:
- Instead of a slide there's an obstacle slide in the inflatable area. That means in order to get up (yes, up!) the slide, kids will have to navigate and problem-solve their way through. Not only will they be engaged physically, but also mentally.
- The “toothbrush” is another inflatable park feature that you won’t find at an ordinary playground. Kids can hide, pop out, or just enjoy the sensory experience of making their way through these giant inflatable “bristles.”
- Bounce off the walls (literally): Unlike a regular playground, your kids can throw themselves at the wall in the inflatables zone at Flying Squirrel and STILL not get hurt.
- Instead of a plain (and boring) playground ladder for climbing, there's a giant beanstalk indoor rock climbing feature that goes up and up (and up!) Don’t worry, there’s a harness involved. This is unlike anything you’ll see at the park, where kids climb high without any safety harness to back them up.
- At a standard playground, you might see kids doing cartwheels on the grass. At Flying Squirrel, you’ll see them doing gymnastics in a slightly different way: with aerial silks. They can practice all their coolest moves with ease (and land in a giant foam pit) to cushion their fall.
- Instead of wrestling with their friends at the park, kids can safely engage in challenging their friends to the battle beam. That’s right—they each get a gladiator-style cushion, walk across the balance beam and try to knock each other into a cozy foam pit. This elevates the usual wrestling and also channels it into a positive and fun competition.
- Instead of a hard ground, there are wall-to-wall trampolines. We’re stating the obvious here, but at Flying Squirrel, no one “walks.” Instead, we bounce. When the very ground you’re exploring is also part of the fun, that’s what makes a playground REALLY stand out.
