Kids are flipping out over this Hamilton parkour course

We might not be thrilled about the idea of our kids doing parkour on pavement (yikes!)—or even worse, pulling an Office-style stunt and jumping off furniture, shouting “Parkour!” as they tumble over couches and trip on tables. Thankfully, Flying Squirrel in Hamilton has the perfect parkour course where kids can test their new skills safely. It’s a parent’s dream: a place where kids can say, "Look at my cool trick, Dad!" without us panicking about scraped knees or chaotic living room disasters.
Not just a trampoline park
It’s easy to see why kids love Flying Squirrel trampoline park in Hamilton. Tons of jump space, the most epic climbing wall (with a safe foam pit to fall into) and plenty of other attractions to keep them entertained.
But did you know the trampoline park also has a separate (and equally amazing) parkour course? Here’s why kids are loving this engaging space:
- Parkour course: Rock climbing cubes
We’ve all seen traditional rock climbing walls, but for parkour enthusiasts, Flying Squirrel adds an extra challenge with their rock climbing cubes. These interconnected cubes, set at a diagonal, feature multiple handholds for climbing. Once they’ve conquered this obstacle, kids will immediately find themselves tackling the next one.
- Parkour course: Balance balls
Kids who love testing their balance will get a thrill from Flying Squirrel’s balance balls. Unlike beams or trapezes, these stationary balls are connected by beams, offering a fun and dynamic challenge. Whether running across them or trying to balance on one foot, there’s always another obstacle waiting.
- Parkour course: Old school jungle gym
Throwback to playgrounds of the past with Flying Squirrel’s revamped jungle gym. This modernized version of the classic square climbing structure offers endless opportunities to climb, swing, and practice monkey bar skills. Kids can spend hours exploring this upgraded favorite.
- Parkour course: Vertical wall climb
For aspiring Spiderpeople, Flying Squirrel’s vertical wall climb offers the perfect test of parkour skills. The wall, set at a slight angle, dares kids to run up and see if they can gain the speed and momentum to make it to the top. It’s a challenge the whole family will enjoy trying out.
Give parkour a try in a safe space
One of my favorite parenting philosophies is “Control the environment, not the child.” It’s not about stopping kids from being active, but about creating a safe environment for them to release their energy. When kids wrestle, spin, and move their bodies, they’re simply finding ways to regulate themselves. Flying Squirrel’s parkour park gives them the perfect outlet for this, without the dangers of hard surfaces like concrete. It’s all about letting kids explore and play freely in a safe space designed for movement and fun.
